How to Tease Straight Hair

Even since it came into fashion in the 1600s, high-volume hair has been a sure-fire way to add drama to any look. Teasing, or "backcombing," is one of the best ways to get that extra body, whether you're aiming for major height, or just a little something extra.

Instructions

  1. Spray all of your hair with hairspray to give it texture.
  2. Using fine-tooth comb, part off a section of hair. Start with the front and work your way back. Clip the rest of your strands out of the way. Work with small sections at a time for a longer-lasting hairstyle.
  3. Hold the strand of hair up with one hand. Use your other hand to comb the strands, starting from the ends and working toward the roots. Repeat until the hair looks uniformly teased. Spray with hairspray. Repeat on all sections.
  4. Once all of your hair is teased, lightly go over the top layer with a soft-bristled brush (try using just the ends of the bristles). Spray hairspray all over and add a little shine product to finish.
