How to Make Hair Soft

You might not notice the softness of your hair until it's not soft. Having soft hair isn't impossible, even for those with very curly locks. It'll take some time and work if your hair is damaged, but anyone can achieve soft hair. When you treat your hair with a little TLC, you can improve its condition and how soft it feels to the touch.

Instructions

    • 1
Use moisturizing products on your hair. Having enough moisture in your hair will make it softer. When shopping for shampoo and conditioner, look for products that are formulated for dry hair types.
    • 2
Wash your hair at least once a week, but don't use shampoo every day. Too much shampooing can cause drying. If you need to wet your hair daily, use conditioner and comb through your hair well.
    • 3
Concentrate conditioner on the ends of your hair, not the roots. The ends of your hair are older and more prone to dryness.
    • 4
Trim split ends regularly. You can either go to a hair stylist to have this service done or you can do this yourself if you're careful. Every three months, trim about 1/4 inch off the ends of your hair. This gets rid of dried and dead ends and prevents splitting hairs from getting worse.
    • 5
Sleep in a satin cap or on a silky or satin pillowcase. This is very important for people with very curly and/or dry hair. Regular cotton pillowcases rob hair of its moisture, making it drier and less soft.
    • 6
Use mousse and pomade instead of gel. Gel sometimes contain alcohol, which dries out the hair.
    • 7
Wear your hair in protective styles during the colder months of the year. Protective styles include braids, buns and updos. These styles protect your hair from harsh winter air.
